The Terrafugia flying car (roadable airplane?) was a big hit; Natalie carried an ad for it around all day. Maybe her future commuter?
Calvin's favorites were the helicopters, and he even got to try his hand in one:
Even mom & dad got to climb in & make airplane noises! We're sitting in the model that's the same airframe as the one we intend to start building (more on that soon), although this one uses a different wing.
Audrey finally found a plane that caught her eye; Aunt Rochelle told her a real girl's plane needs to have racing stripes & chrome.
Cal liked the old-school rotary engines,
And apparently Natalie needs to learn the difference between boats & airplanes....
We covered over 6 miles, and still only saw a fraction of what was there! Lots of P-51s & WWII era planes & equipment were in town, and Emily had the troops marching along.
They even did a reenactment of the Japanese attack on Pearl Harbor, and we got to see the good guys in the P-40 Warhawk chase off the Jap Zeros.
The kids got to wave to Dusty, a special visitor and star of the new Planes movie. Everyone's looking forward to movie night to see him in action!
We had great seats for the airshow on the grass next to the runway:
We saw biplanes, competition aerobatic planes, old military aircraft and a helicopter that flew upside down!
The formation flying in the below pic is done by pilots who built their own RVs, the same line of planes as ours (future plane) comes from. The pilots have a mix of backgrounds, and as you can see in the taxiing pic above, they all personalize their planes their own way but their teamwork is excellent!
Adam & Rochelle's favorite was a rocket-powered truck. Yes, really. It drag-raced an airplane that was already flying and almost won! Top speed of the truck is 375mph. If only Smokey & the Bandit had one of these...
The big finale must have had over 100 warbirds in the air including a B-29 Superfortress from the Texas CAF museum. Between that and the pyrotechnics, it was a great end to high-flying day!
After all that, there was still 75% of the grounds we didn't see - floatplanes, ultralights, tool vendors and so much more. We had a blast with everyone who came, and hopefully we'll have a chance to see more soon!
